The meaning of Life by Adana ម៉ម Legros [Exhibition]
January 18 @ 6:00 pm - February 15 @ 11:30 pm
Franco-Cambodian artist and activist, Adana has spent her childhood in Phnom Penh with women and children survivors of sexual exploitation.
In 2012, Adana assists New York Times journalist Nicolas Kristoff in his article on violence against women in Cambodia. This environment makes it prematurely aware of the problems of the contemporary world. Revolted by social injustices and their worldwide evolution, she flies to Europe to start studying law and political science in Nice in order to acquire the necessary tools to get into the fight.
This momentum, however, is abruptly interrupted by the discovery of cancer two years ago, which imposes severe physical and psychological suffering. She uses meditation to confront her loneliness and became passionate in neuro-politics, neuroscience, genetics, psychology, philosophy and political science. According to her, this period allows her to develop a great capacity for resilience and made a warrior out of her.
After her treatment, she escapes to New York where her artistic passion begins. Adana works a year before inaugurating her first exhibition, My RenaiSense, in June 2018 in Manhattan. Touching a first audience, she returns the entire sale of her paintings to Less Cancer, an American foundation. Immersed in the New York world, Adana concretizes her abstract style, centered on her self-analysis. She meets personalities, notably Susan Sarandon, who will form the activist and feminist she is.
In search of a reconciliation between roots and identity, she returned to Cambodia in early 2019. In March, she inaugurated The Sens Of Consciousness, an exhibition focused on the search of the self-awareness, which touches a public of Cambodian artists. Three months later, Adana launches a third exhibition in Sydney where she sells all of her works.
Then she embarked on a fashion project with stylist Erya Miura, who printed her work Wonderer on her latest creation, presented at Brussels Fashion Days, just before exhibiting at the Maison du Cambodge in Paris.
Adana will show her latest works at Alliance Française Bangkok, with The Meaning of Life exhibition, from January 18 to February 15, 2020. An event on the initiative of Latitudes magazine, which latest issue’s cover features Adana’s work and which will soon celebrate its 3 years at the service of cultural and artistic discoveries.
