AWAY CHIANG MAI THAPAE RESORT
A vegetarian Nest
9 February 2019
Nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai, Away Chiang Mai Thapae Resort is the first fully vegetarian upscale hotel.
With more than 80 restaurants and some vegetarian B&Bs, Chiang Mai ranks sixth most welcoming cities for those who chose not to eat meat anymore, according to the website HappyCow.
Open since November 2017, Away Chiang Mai Thapae Resort, a four-star hotel based on the principles of the Buddhist abstinence, still raises the quality of the offer. Far from an austere Buddhist retreat, the hotel with its Lanna-influenced colonial architecture offers pretty and comfortable rooms with balconies and pool views. The hotel being lengthy, it has optimized the space and offers a setting that almost makes you forget that it is only a few steps away from the Thapae Gate in the heart of the city.
In addition to the rooms and suites, the hotel invites their guests as well as outsider guests to savor Thai and Western cuisine that is fully vegetarian/vegan in their Moreganic restaurant.
“The owner of the hotel is Hindu hence his desire to offer a place that follows the principles of Hindu-Buddhist vegetarianism: no animal suffering or alcohol,” says the General Manager James Hang.
Khao soi, burgers, quinoa salads, fresh juice, waffles or mango with sticky rice, from morning to evening the restaurant offers quality cuisine and could surprise the most skeptical by revealing unsuspected flavors of tofu or by serving a fake chicken steak to accompany the papaya salad, a delight.
