The new Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Terminal could look like a rainforest, a nice invitation to travel before boarding the plane.

To meet the ever-increasing demand, the new facility is expected to accommodate 30 million passengers a year.

Conceived by the architectural firm led by Duangrit Bunnag, DBALP, with wood as the main material, the project refers to the lush landscape of Thailand and is already provoking several controversies such as a lack of transparency in the selection of projects by the AoT, contested accusation of plagiarism and supposed de ciencies in terms of safety in case of fire. Expected to be operational by 2022, the facility still has quite some time to comply to requirements and make polemics cease.
