Former resident DJ at Bed Supperclub, Dark Bar, Safe Room or Studio Lam, Marmosets is a well-known electronic producer based in Bangkok. He is at present the Music Director and resident DJ of now well-established Thonglor nightclub Beam.
The only club in Big Mango to feature a stateoftheart VOID acoustic sound systems (recommended for bass lovers) stands out among the Bangkokian night scene with a sharp programming.
You stand for quality music, what drives your choices in booking an artist in Beam?
It’s all about the sensibility of the artists’ work. This is how we decide what connects, and what will give our crowd a good time. Sometimes there are artists we really love and respect but they don’t fit our audience too well. We balance it out across the spectrum and it depends on timing as well.
What are the worst difficulties you encounter in running such a place in Bangkok?
Product-to-market fit proves to be quite complex and sometimes unpredictable. And unlike more widely established scenes and business types such as local live music bars, and table-service EDM clubs, our positioning is not as categorical and so programming is quite tricky.
If you could book anybody, dead or alive to set up your dream line-up, who would you choose?
My mind keeps changing but for 2018, it should be…
Main Room: Paula Temple / Jeff Mills / Young Marco / Nina Kraviz / Ben Klock / Brodinski
Dalmation Room: Hudson Mohawke / Clipping / Moderat / Chance The Rapper / Mura Masa / Hudson Mohawke / SBTRKT
The festival you are going to attend this year?
I’m planning to go to Katharsis, Berlin Atonal, Houghton Festival and Dekmantel.
Your best memory of a gig @ Beam?
Beamfest 2017, with Tiefschwarz, Jennifer Cardini, Yawk, Derrick May, Tiga, Snakehips.
