Clean up Bangkok!
CREATIVE DISTRICT @ BANGKOK RIVER
12 September 2017
Thailand faces a huge problem with waste. The metropolitan rubbish dump is struggling to cope with the volume of waste created by the city.
Clean up the world is a community based environmental campaign that inspires and empowers communities from every corner of the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment.
Now in its 24th year, Clean Up the World, held in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), mobilises an estimated 35 million volunteers from 130 countries annually, making it one of the largest community-based environmental campaigns in the world.
Bangkok River Partners proudly joined the campaign in 2015. On the third weekend of September each year, Partners work with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, local businesses, community groups, schools, and their neighbours to tidy streets, spruce up green space and remove rubbish from the khlongs that run into the Chaophraya River. The aim is to raise awareness of the problem with waste and to bring about behavior change on the use and disposal of plastic bags, bottles and straws.
This year, Clean Up the World is September 16 & 17. It’s a great opportunity to work with those in your friends, school or colleagues to clean up your neighborhood and raise awareness about the amount of waste we all generate. If you will be staying at a riverside hotel, would like to join the global movement and become a local conservationist by contacting the concierge or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
