On the occasion of Olivier Schibli’s “Faces of Siam” exhibition, the Pullman Phuket Arcadia Hotel inaugurated a new space dedicated to art in Phuket: Artist Playground.
The Pullman Phuket Arcadia Hotel thus present until the end of September the new creations of Olivier Schibli (well known in Phuket under the name of BuBu), with some of them realized in situ, a series of paintings with modern and colourful pieces and a naive touch. Self-taught artist, BuBu studied at a visual school of art in Bern, Switzerland.
Unfortunately, after his mother’s suicide he experienced a dark period for about ten years, before returning to creation. In 2012, he began to paint with increasing devotion and is now an artist known and recognized throughout the world.
“For me canvas is a place of meditation and construction, of immersion into the past and projection into the future. I like to move on the border between figures and abstraction and I have boundless faith in clean and bright colors,” explains the cheerful 40-year-old painter, well at ease in his jeans stained with fresh paint.
Faces of Siam is part of the “Artist Playground by Pullman” program launched in March. An initiative that allows artists, confirmed or emerging, to exhibit their works in art corners set in the establishments of the AccorHotels brand, illustrating its commitment to contemporary art.
“The Artist Playground is an initiative intended to add elements of local interest, cultural intrigue and visual ingenuity to the hotel’s communal spaces” summarizes Brett Wilson, the general manager of Pullman Phuket Arcadia.
